Choice, not chance determines destiny. Of course, it is not possible for all 10 take to one profession. Everybody decides about his profession according to his or her taste and capability. Almost believably, the choice of profession has now become much more difficult than it used to be in the past. The increase in population, the overcrowding of the learned professions like teaching, law, medicine, banking and ever-increasing competition of C.S.S. and P.C.S. exams have virtually made it extremely difficult to choose a reasonable profession.
"The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any."
Casual approach in choosing a career or profession can prove positively harmful. It shows indecision, lack of dedication and carelessness. Gone is the days when birth, caste, heredity and family used to decide one's profession. One used to follow the footsteps of one's father. But now life has assumed very complex form and these are the days of specialization. There is a great variety of professions and jobs which may lead one to confusion and amazement. It has made the choice of a career all the more difficult. The lack of proper guidance and counseling has further worsened the situation. Consequently, young men and women are often seen grouping in the dark and making wrong career choices. The very-increasing number of job seekers has surely created a lot of frustration, hopelessness, unrest and acts of indiscipline. It also means a waste of human sources and national wealth.

The right and timely choice of career is of great importance. It is so crucial that the future success or failure of a person depends on it. A correct of career may lead to success, happiness and prosperity, while a wrong and late one may lead to sorrow, repentance, failure and along frustration. The consequences of wrong and late decision are numerous and bitter. To avoid should try to choose one's career as early as possible. Preferably, it should be decided at the high school stage. And the decision must be made according to one's aptitude and resources. But one must keep in mind that the school going students are not the best judges in such and important matter. They are still inexperienced and immature. They certainly need sincere guidance and help. The teachers, elders and professional experts can provide this sort of help in a really appreciable manner.

In our country, young people are ambitious and important. They long for top position and careers without considering their academic career, skill, intellectual level, aptitude, financial and other resources. A young man or woman may hitch his or her wagon to a top post in army or to the C.S.S. and P.C. S level, but may end up as a petty clerk or a receptionist. One may desire to become a star in film-world and may end up as helper in the industry, or even worse. Choosing a profession for life is a little more than building castles in the air. It is no use shooting in the dark and hoping to it the bull's eye. Vain effort, ill-considered decisions and plans lead to repentance, failure and waste of national talent.
"It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop." - Confucius
There is no denying that our defective education and examination system and policies have further added to the confusion. Our education system does need immediate and fundamental changes. It will have to be vocationalised and diversified at secondary level by introducing such knowledge and skills as may enable a student to find some reasonable work. There should be plenty of vocational courses to choose from even at primary level. There should also be counseling and guidance services in each and every secondary School to help students in choosing their careers.

It is true that there are a lot of training institutions, polytechnics, industrial and agricultural training centers and professional colleges. But they are not of much help in the absence of career guidance services. Therefore, the selection of the right profession and right institution has become difficult and complex. T needs full consideration and professional approach. There are many careers and professions, such as teaching engineering, law, medicine, banking, business, commerce, computer programming, finance, journalism, publication, government employment, besides starting one's own shop or factory. Then one can choose to act, films, commercial art, photography or become a stenographer. But each and every profession requires special skill, training and knowledge. So, one cannot choose a career at random.

Now it is no more possible to choose one's career according to one's liking and disliking. There are so many other factors to be considered. Beside capability and interest, the financial resource also have to be taken into account. One may want to become a doctor, executive, business entrepreneur or a computer engineer, but cannot do so if financial resources and required means are lacking. In such a condition, one will be forced to adopt some humble and less ambitious career. In this way, the change of career in midstream can prove very risky. That is why, a career should be and must be selected very carefully and with full planning and consultations with parents, teachers, elders, friends and professionals.

If one has an aptitude for public life and skill to make the people listen and follow, one can also take to politics. One should not pay heed to the saying that politics is the last refuge of the scoundrels. There have been many highly noble souls and personlities in politics. Similarly, if you are adventurous, bold and dashing, you can choose a military or a police career. There your abilites, skills and aptitude will surely find full scope to flourish and blossom.
